Second St Louis “Close Embrace” Tango
Weekend 2004Friday September
17– Monday September 20 at Washington
University with Tom Stermitz from Denver
At its best, Tango is a trance - danced so closely that you feel
your partner's heart beat and you share the rhythm of their breathing.
Tom's classes are designed
to have you up and dancing social-style Argentine Tango as quickly as
possible. He is especially effective at getting men to be confident, to feel
the beat, and to lead the intricate steps of tango. His approach to teaching
tango is from the inside out, emphasizing improvisation, fundamentals, heart
& soul, rhythm & music and especially the connection
between the leader and follower. What looks complex is actually simple
when approached as an improvised, rhythmic walk rather than memorized patterns.
Even advanced dancers will find Tom’s classes enlightening and are encouraged
to attend the workshop series from the beginning.
Tom is a major promoter of
the rhythmic close-embrace social style of tango in the US. He is
the organizer of the annual Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend
festivals in Denver. Teaching in Boulder & Denver for many years, Tom has
trained some of the best tango dancers in his area and is increasingly in
demand for workshops and Tango Festivals around the US and abroad.
Back by popular demand,
this is Tom’s second visit to St Louis this year!
We had an
excellent response for Tom’s first workshop in March, with people coming from
Columbia, Jefferson City, Mount Vernon, KC, Springfield, Madison, Champaign-Urbana,
Memphis, Tulsa, and Lansing. We expect the second workshop to be just as
exciting, and to be a great opportunity to meet fellow dancers from all over
the Midwest!
